4U30VIC, AUSTRIA. The Vienna International Centre Amateur Radio Club
(4U1VIC) will be on the air during the Worked All Europe DX Contest
(WAEDC), September 12-13th. This will be a SSB only operation. The
station is located in the secured United Nation campus in Vienna, Austria,
and due to access restrictions, they will not be able to operate the full
48 hours continuously. They will try to be on the air as much as possible.
4U1VIC will send QSL cards for all QSOs via bureau. If you are in a hurry
you can send it direct including SAE and return postage to: AMATEUR RADIO
CLUB, VIENNA INTERNATIONAL CENTRE, P.O.BOX 500, A-1400 VIENNA, AUSTRIA.

online at: www.vimeo.com/6301009

6Y, JAMAICA. Look for 6Y1V to once again be active in this year’s CQWW
Contests. The 6Y1V team has also announced that they will also once again
sponsor one young ham operator (21 or under) to join their team and
receive an all expense paid trip to operate in the 2009 CQWW SSB or CW
Contest with the 6Y1V team. You can reside in any country in the world
and be considered for this opportunity provided you hold a valid amateur
radio license in your country and have some contest experience. This is
a gift to a young ham whom has a passion for Ham Radio and contesting.
It is their way of giving something back to this great hobby that has
given so much to them! Complete details are available at:
www.6y1v.com/youth.htm

911 ACTIVITY. Mike, W0YR, will once again (as for the past several years)
be active as W0YR/911 on September 11th, to honor/commemorate those lives
lost in a terrorist attack at the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center
in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the plane that
crashed into a field near Shanksville,PA. He plans to operate as much of
the day as possible. Mike states, “I just wanted to do it to remind those
I work on the air of what this country endured because of hatred — and
also remind those who want to minimize it or forget it, that this WAS an
Act of Terror and, even though they would like to revise history, the
memory of those (among them, two of my friends) who perished on September
11th, 2001, will NEVER be forgotten or sullied.” A special QSL will be
issued. QSL via his home callsign.

C3, ANDORRA. Ruben/EA5BZ and possibly other operators from the URE Contest
Group will be active as C37URE during the CQWW DX RTTY Contest (September
26-27th) as a Multi-Multi entry. QSL via EA5BZ.

CY0, SABLE ISLAND (Update/Postponed). OPDX has received the following
press release on Friday, August 28th (edited):
“The Sable Island DXpedition scheduled for October 19, 2009, by
Randy - N0TG, Ron - AA4VK, and Murray - WA4DAN is being placed on ‘hold’.
Unfortunately, Randy’s son, Carter (who was part of the KP1 and KP5
team in 1992), has developed kidney cancer which has spread to the lungs.
Although there will be challenging days ahead for Carter and the family
of N0TG, we trust the prayers of friends will strengthen this family and
successfully bring all through this trial.
The team appreciates the many sponsors who were willing to provide
their support, even though CY0 was not at the top of the most needed
list, the support of the DX Community from around the world, and the
interests shown by the many DX’ers that ’signed’ the website Guestbook.
We will leave the website up and updates will be posted from time to
time on Carter’s progress, as well as our plans to reschedule the DX-
pedition to CY0.
Our hope is that Carter will beat this disease and be able to join us
at Sable Island. We do consider this a ‘hold’ and we intend to reschedule
as health concerns permit.
Thanks again to our Ham Radio friends for your support. We wish the
best for Randy’s son Carter and all the Rowe family. Randy’s (N0TG)
contact information is listed on QRZ.com……. Thanks for your prayers.”

FT/G, GLORIOSO ISLAND (Update/Magic Band). Didier, F5OGL, Glorioso 2009
team leader, announced this past week (on August 25th)(edited): “The
propagation forecast for the Magic Band from Gloriosos is very bad at
the expedition time; quiet in all directions. Taking advice from the 6
meters specialists, they inform us that chances to give FT5GA to the
world hams are very low and even less. The only one antenna available
is a 2 element HB9CV, with no other possibility to bring another or
several other more efficient one(s), included for EME; So it has been
considered we had to focus on HF bands. So we sadly decided to concentrate
our activity only from 160 to 10 meters… We ask the 6m community to
understand our decision.” For more details and updates, visit the FT5GA
Web page at: glorieuses2008.free.fr

now, maybe in 2 or 3 months when their summer comes around. There is
no ZL5SP in SMART which is the ZL Radio Frequency Service database
where all callsigns are recorded. There is also no record held by
NZART our National body…” Save your green stamps!

they can now accept QSOs made in the 2008 IOTA contest for credit
without QSL Cards.
* Interruption of service from RSGB HQ: The RSGB regrets that as the
result of the sudden resignation of the IOTA Coordinator at HQ, there
will be an interruption in its service to the IOTA community pending
the filling of the post. This means that there will be a delay,
possibly as long as a month, in the issue of certificates, plaques and
trophies and in the handling of emails addressed to: iota[taskas]hq[kringelis]rsgb[taskas]org.uk
A notice will be posted when normal service resumes.
* NEW IOTA Directory available: Now celebrating 45 years of Island

IRC NEWS. Just a reminder for those who like to stockpile International
Reply Coupons (IRCs)– the current IRC will expire at the end of year.
Unlike the old style coupons, the current types all have an expiry date,
giving them a maximum life of 3 years. If you purchased a current IRC
today, they will still expire on December 31, 2009. Ken, ZL2HU, advises
us on the following information from International Postal Union in Geneva:
“The current issue (Beijing 2) IRC may be exchanged up to 31 December
2009 (date printed on coupon). In principle, Beijing 2 coupons will no
longer be sold from 31 August 2009. The new international reply coupon
(Nairobi model) is due to go on sale from 1 July 2009, and will be valid
for exchange until 31 December 2013.” Ken states, “So make sure you
aren’t holding any of the Beijing 2 coupons at the end of this year.”

VK9GMW, MELLISH REEF (News - QSO Data Lost!). George, AA7JV, reports on
April 22nd: “We both made it home, safe and sound (but dog tired).
Unfortunately our support team’s efforts to recover the WriteLog QSO
data have not produced results yet. We are now seeking help from WriteLog.
In the meantime, please do not send any QSLs or OQRS requests for any
QSO that took place between 4/9 2020 UTC and 4/10 0923 UTC. We apologize,
understanding how this may disappoint those who have made the QSOs, but
as long as we can not recover the data, we will not able to QSL these
QSOs.”
ADDED NOTE: George, AA7JV, also, reports: “I have been getting a lot
of requests for info on the antenna we used on Mellish.” Read about
their multi-band antenna at: vk9gmw.com/documents/VK9GMW_ANTENNA.pdf

including KH6, KL7, CY9 and CY0) work as many W/VE stations in as many of

at www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2009/intldx.html. This year’s event
will run from from 00.00 UTC on 7 March through 24.00 UTC on the 8th. Do
not forget to give a look at the Announced Operations listing maintained by
Bill, NG3K at www.ng3k.com/Misc/adxs2009.html - good contest to you
all!

DXCC NEWS —> At its last meeting the ARRL Programs and Services Committee
decided that administratively the concept of “deleted entities” should be
returned to the DXCC programme. The concepts for deleting an entity do not
change. If an entity is deleted it will be added to the Deleted Entities
List and the statistical records for DXCC participants will be adjusted
accordingly, just as they had been in the years prior to 2000 (when the
change from “deleting entities” to “removing entities” was introduced).

database”, Phil says, “we appear to have been the victim of some piracy”.
Please note that there was neither activity by FH/G3RWL (both operators
used FH/G3SWH) nor SSB activity whatsoever.

K5D POSTLOGUE —> “The K5D DXpedition (12-26 February 2009) netted 115,783
QSOs, including one QSO with the International Space Station. The
DXpedition ranks #7th for all-time number of QSOs, and the #1 DXpedition
with the most 30m contacts. More importantly, we are confident that
thousands of radio amateurs worldwide now have a QSO with Desecheo for an
all-time new one - our overall #1 goal!
Desecheo was #2 Most Wanted in Asia and #3 Most Wanted in Europe. We are
happy to report that 40% of our contacts were with Asia and Europe -
