NETHERLANDS ANTILLES CONTINUED. Hans Timmerman, PB2T, President of the
European DX Foundation (EUDXF), announced on the EUDXF Web page Tuesday,
December 16th (edited): “According to Dutch Prime Minister Balkenende,
important agreements to secure the future of the people on the Netherlands
Antilles were made. During (another) Round Table Conference held on 15th
December 2008 an agreement was signed on the future of the Netherlands
Antilles. In 2009 more work has to be done on the execution of the agree-
ments made. Depending on progress a date, will be set for the implementa-
tion of the new structure. There is hope that all will be finalized in
2010. In 2005 it was agreed that Curacao (PJ2) and Sint Maarten (PJ7) will
become autonomous countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and that
the islands Bonaire (PJ4), Sint Eustatius (PJ5) and Saba (PJ6) will become
Dutch municipalities. DXCC wise, these changes could result in deletion
of two entities (PJ2 and PJ7) and four new entities: Curacao (with status
aparte), Sint Maarten (with status aparte), Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and
Saba.”

NOW WAIT A SECOND! Those who like to be on time will have to wait a
second for on New Year’s Eve before ringing in the New Year on Wednesday.

2009 CQ WPX CONTEST (Rule Changes). Randy Thompson, K5ZD, Director of
the CQ WPX Contest, announced that the rules for the 2009 CQ WPX Contest
are now available. See: www.cqwpx.com/rules.htm
There are changes throughout the rules, so participants are encouraged to
read the complete rules carefully. Many of the changes were to align with
similar rules in the CQ WW Contest or to clarify administrative details.
There is no change to the scoring. Most of the changes are administrative
and should have little impact on the competitive and fun aspects of the
contest. They look forward to more sunspots and another record year of
participation in the 2009 WPX contests. Look for CQ WPX 2008 Contest
results in the January (SSB) and March (CW) issues of CQ Magazine.

4A, MEXICO (Special Event). Members of the DXXE (Mexican Contest and DX
group) will celebrate their 4th anniversary by using the special callsign
4A1DXXE between December 25th and January 6th (2009). Activity will be
on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via N7RO and the LoTW. QSOs
with this station are good for the DXXE Award. For more information,
visit the DXXE Web page at: www.dxxe.org

in Zanzibar (AF-032), February 3-13th. Look for Sigi to sign 5H1DF and
be active on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY and SSTV as often as
possible. His equipment consists of a transceiver, a linear TY900, a 18m
Lowband Vertical, a Vertical R7, as well as a laptop computer. QSL via
DL7DF, by the German QSL Bureau (DARC) or direct to: Sigi Presch,
Wilhelmsmuehlenweg 123, D-12621 Berlin, Germany. For updates and more
details, visit: www.dl7df.com/5h/index.html

mentions that he will participate in the main international contests
(like the CQ WPX) from a different location with a better station (yagi
antennas and also dipole for 80m). Dani will stay in Malaysia for at
least one year. QSL via his home callsign.

ASIAN TRIP (Update). By the time you read this Frank, I2DMI, should be
active from Thimphu, Bhutan, as A52RY between December 22-31st. Frank
informed OPDX on Friday that he will be using his own vertical antenna
because the yagi at the HAM CENTRE has been broken by wind. He also
mentioned that he still does not know his callsign for Nepal, but he
will get a 9N7 (RY? or DMI?) callsign after his arrival in Kathmandu.
Please remember he will only be active during his spare time as A52RY.
Activity will only be RTTY. He thinks his operating periods will likely
be in the ranges of 0100-0300z and 1200-1900z. Suggested target frequencies

week of March. You can QSL direct to I2DMI: P.O. Box 55 - 22063 CANTU,

5X1AB PIRATE ALERT. Phil, K6EID, who is the QSL Manager for Arik, 5X1AB,
states that Arik was active on October 9th, 2008, until 1740z when he
then QRTed. Someone apparently used his callsign working many USA boys
after that until 2100 or 2200z. Phil states, “I’ve received loads of
cards and had to return them as NIL. Arik confirmed that he did not
make these QSOs. Anyone working a station signing 5X1AB after 1740z
on October 9th, 2008, you worked a pirate, save your postage.”

NA-132/NA-133 QSL REQUEST. Pedro, HK3JJH, informs OPDX that he is
receiving lot of QSL cards for the recent expedition (NA-132/NA-133)
from the USA with only a 42 cent stamp only on the envelope. These
cards will not be answerd directly because his post office box in
Miami is a mail drop-off (to make it easier/safer for him to retrieve
the cards). The QSLs will be mailed to Colombia and then sent back to
the U.S. for mailing; the expenses are over one USD for each envelope.

Rony, PS7AB, informs OPDX that he is now the new Manager of the
“Islanders Expeditionaries Association” (AEI), the Awards and Certifi-
cates of the “DIB” (Brazilian Islands Award), “DFB” (Brazilian Light-
houses Award), and “DFH” (Brazilian Historical Fortifications), in
substitution to the old manger, Pedro Sirzanink, PP5SZ. The “Islanders
Expeditionaries Association” (AEI) is a civilian society that was
founded on October, 27, 1993, in Florianopolis City, by Pedro Sirzanink,
PP5SZ. For more information about “AEI”, please read the following link:
